The Portable Headphone Amp is a dongle-style DAC and amplifier that connects to a phone or laptop over USB-C and decodes audio externally. It provides a 3.5 mm single-ended output and a 4.4 mm balanced output, the latter delivering more power for demanding headphones.
It draws power from the host device and requires no battery. PCM is supported up to 32-bit / 384 kHz. A small physical volume rocker on the side adjusts level independently of the host. The body is machined aluminum with a braided USB-C cable fixed at one end.

Drives my 80-ohm cans from a phone
The balanced 4.4 mm output has noticeably more headroom than the single-ended jack. My phone could not get loud enough before; now it can. No perceptible noise floor.

Warms up and drains battery
It gets slightly warm in use and it does pull from the phone battery faster than the built-in jack would. The sound improvement is worth it for longer listening, less so for quick check-ins.
