Tube Headphone Amp
Item SD-3666
A desktop hybrid headphone amplifier with a single 6J1 tube and RCA inputs.
Shipping: calculated at delivery
The Tube Headphone Amp is a hybrid desktop amplifier pairing a single 6J1 vacuum tube input stage with a solid-state output stage. It is an analog amplifier only and has no digital inputs; it accepts a line-level signal from a DAC or source over RCA.
The tube is socketed and user-replaceable, allowing experimentation with different valves. Outputs are a front 6.35 mm headphone jack and a rear RCA pre-out for powered speakers. A relay-protected delay mutes the output for a few seconds at power-on while the tube warms.
Suitable for headphones from 16 to 300 ohms. The chassis is brushed aluminum with the tube exposed through a vented top panel.

Pleasant, slightly warm sound
It adds a subtle warmth that suits older recordings. No digital input, so I run it from a separate DAC. The tube glows faintly through the top vent, which is a nice touch.

Faint hum at high gain
There is a low hum audible through sensitive IEMs at the highest volume positions. Fine with full-size headphones. Swapping the stock tube reduced it somewhat.
